Choosing the right menstrual cup size is not as easy as it sounds, but getting the right size is a guarantee of success.
Most menstrual cup brands make a point of saying that cup size is related to:
-age
-and with the fact that you have been a mother by vaginal birth.
But this explanation is a bit vague and is not always the case.
As much as the rest insist on telling you the above, we have to tell you that the decisive factor to choose your cup size is to know the HEIGHT OF YOUR CERVICE.
What is and where is the cervix?
The cervix is the neck of the uterus. We could say that it is like the “gate” that joins your vaginal canal with your uterus. Thanks to the hormonal receptors it has, it changes its position and opens and closes.
Measuring your cervix can be the most confusing and strange thing you can do to choose your size, but we assure you that it is the most important thing to get it right.
When should you measure your cervix?
We recommend that you do this during menstruation. As we said before, the cervix moves. It goes up and down throughout the menstrual cycle and only by measuring it during bleeding, you can be very accurate and know if your cervix is low, medium or high.
How do we measure our cervix?
When we have menstruation, we should introduce a clean finger (the index finger for example) through the vagina and try to locate with the tip of the finger something round, with a firm texture that resembles the tip of the nose.
Before removing the finger, you should mark with your thumb how many phalanges of the finger you have inserted and then you can count the numbers.
- If you were able to insert your entire finger, you have a high cervix (55mm).
- If you have been able to insert up to the second phalanx, you have a mid cervix (55-45mm).
- If you’ve only gone as far as the first phalanx, you’ve got it low (44mm).
How do we translate the cervical measurement into sizes?
- You should choose a size S if you have a cervix below 49 mm.
- If you have a medium cervix, we recommend the Comfort Pack S and L.
- If you have a medium cervix, either a S or a L will fit, as each body is unique, if in doubt buy a S+L pack.
