Is the vaginal ring compatible with the menstrual cup?
The vaginal ring is a device that is placed in the vaginal canal and releases hormones to block ovulation. You wear it for 21 days and rest for 7 days, which are just days of bleeding, so unless you have more than 7 days of bleeding, the ring should not "coexist" with the cup.
Does using the cup prevent me from getting pregnant?
No. The cup is a bleeding collection device. It is neither a barrier method like condoms or diaphragm, nor a hormonal contraceptive method like the vaginal ring.
Is the IUD compatible with the menstrual cup?
Yes, but with these considerations in mind. The IUD is a "T" shaped device that is placed in the uterus. The cup, on the other hand, is in the vaginal canal, so a priori they should not be in contact. The IUD has some threads that in case they are very long they could come into contact with the cup. It is recommended that you talk to the health professional who inserted the IUD to see if these hairs can be trimmed to ensure the proper functioning of both devices.
Can I have sex with the cup on?
If the sexual intercourse is penetrative, no. The cup is in the vaginal canal so when the penis enters the vaginal canal, it would encounter the cup. Sex goes beyond the famous penetration so you can opt for other forms of pleasure such as masturbation or oral sex.
