About PapayaCup

After becoming a mother, I wanted to resume menstrual cup use, but initial experiences were frustrating due to discomfort and pain. Determined to find a solution, I discovered that most cups were stiff and straight, contributing to the discomfort. I shared my idea with my friend Tania, and together we created a more flexible and comfortable cup. After months of testing, PapayaCup was born.

I tried the first PapayaCup and felt no discomfort. We decided to test it with other women and received positive feedback on its curved design and comfort. In December 2021, we received our first purchases and incredible feedback from satisfied customers. PapayaCup became a reality, helping women who had given up hope of using a menstrual cup.

CREATING WHAT DID NOT EXIST

After becoming a mother, I wanted to resume the use of the menstrual cup (it was my unfinished business). Years ago I had tried it but it was a total failure: I bought any cup and it bothered me because it was too long.

When my period came back, I got up the courage and bought a standard cup (I thought all cups were the same). The experience was horrible. Worse than with the first cup. The pain I felt putting it in and taking it out made me give up and stop trying.

I'm pretty stubborn and even though I didn't use it again, I couldn't get the menstrual cup out of my head. I couldn't believe that I couldn't use the cup because of pain when everything seemed to be in order. I was confused and somewhat frustrated - was I the only woman who had discomfort with the menstrual cup?

RESEARCH AND DISCOVERIES

I did my own research and came to the following conclusions:

  • All the cups had the same shape, they were straight.
  • Most of the cups were very stiff, plus they have a very hard and pronounced rim.

After giving a lot of thought to this cup issue, I thought, would it be possible to create a more flexible cup for women like me who have discomfort?

The birth of PapayaCup

I didn't dare to tell anyone what I was doing and I kept it a secret for a while. One day, I ended up telling my crazy idea to a friend, Tania. Apparently, she was in the same situation as I was with menstrual cups but had not told anyone about it. She decided to join the research team and that's when PapayaCup was born.

Months later and after several failed attempts and trying different shapes and colors... we finally had it in our hands: the first PapayaCup!

The most difficult

PapayaCup is a reality thanks to an enormous effort, especially in terms of hours of work and also financially.

Can you imagine combining raising a one-year-old baby, working as an employee and starting a business? Yes, all at the same time. Those of you who are moms know what we are talking about. Motherhood is a hard road and if you add to that the difficulties of creating a company from scratch and without experience...

During this time we have had to deal with many problems of various kinds: bureaucratic obstacles, missed deadlines, poor quality printing, lost packages....

A week after launching the website, the transport company lost all the tins (the packaging) where the menstrual cups go. Nobody knew where our packages were and the days went by. We had never been so nervous as we were during that week.

In the end it all turned out to be a scare and an amusing anecdote.

A shot of energy

The first person to test the prototype was me, Patricia. You can't believe the joy I felt when I didn't notice any discomfort when I put it on. Zero pain and it fit perfectly. My dream had come true: we had created a very comfortable cup, which did not bother and with a totally different shape to fit perfectly with our anatomy.

It was time to test the cup with other women who had had problems with other cups. We wanted to know if PapayaCup was "the solution" for them, as it was for us. Eagerly but fearfully, we carefully selected the lucky ones and waited impatiently for their feedback.

Once again the magic happened: most of the women were delighted with PapayaCup. They were surprised by its curved design and emphasized its comfort above all else.

These evaluations gave us the energy we needed to move the project forward. We trained in Menstrual Education, improved the packaging, created our social networks and corrected some details of the first PapayaCup.

THE END OF OUR PRINCIPLES

In December 2021, we received our first purchases and with them, the first customer reviews, and they were really incredible. The first people to buy from us were women who had had problems with other cups and had given up hope of ever being able to use a menstrual cup. PapayaCup was now a reality! We had created a unique menstrual cup and we wanted to shout it from the rooftops. All the effort and passion we had poured into the project made sense when we saw the reception we received.

OUR FUTURE
